Instagram image size, Open Graph 1200x630

Use this page to resize images for Instagram, LinkedIn, and Open Graph instead of exporting 1080 square for every channel. LinkedIn's link preview is not Instagram's portrait. A YouTube thumbnail is 16:9 with room for type that will be covered by a timestamp. Open Graph at 1200x630 still earns its keep: Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, iMessage, WhatsApp. Keep that file JPEG or PNG, preferably under a megabyte, under 300 KB if WhatsApp is the room.

Cover is how a photograph fills a rectangle: edges go. Contain is how a logo survives: you pick the fill color for the bars. If cover cuts a face, crop manually on crop image to the same ratio, then come back only if you still need the exact pixel box.

Then compress if the JPEG is still lazy. Watermark if the asset will leak. Palette from the key visual if the landing page is supposed to match. That is the rest of the marketer lane.

Open Graph HTML tags for 1200x630

Host the JPEG on your origin. Then describe it. Width and height in the meta tags should match the file, not a wish.

Frequently asked questions

Cover or contain for social image sizes?

Cover fills the preset and crops overflow - right for photos. Contain fits the whole image and fills the rest with the canvas color - right for logos that must not clip.

What size is an Open Graph image?

1200x630 JPEG is the link-preview workhorse. Instagram still rewards 1080x1350 in the feed. Stories and YouTube are different boxes; export those when those channels matter.

Should Open Graph images be WebP?

For in-app posts, often yes. For Open Graph tags on your website, stay JPEG or PNG.

What is the LinkedIn banner size?

1584x396. Only export it when you are actually replacing a profile banner. It is a poor share card.

Will cover crop faces on Instagram?

It can. If the preset clips the wrong third, crop manually to the same ratio, then come back only if you still need the exact pixel box.

How small should the Open Graph JPEG be?

Under 1 MB as a rule. WhatsApp is happier under 300 KB. Compress after you have the 1200x630 crop.
